God-given Human Rights

Photo from www.globalhumanrights.orgI have this thought that human rights is a God-given right. Is there a need to classify such as God-given? I think so. Because if it is God-given, then no single state however situated or equipped with powers can take that away from each and every one of us here on earth.

Then, what’s the essence of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)? I say it merely recognizes, in a legal and internationally-binding document, the existence of this right. It did not create human rights. Neither did it impose upon us a set of rights which we do not already have from the very beginning of time. On this score, I consider the UDHR as a sacred text amplifying our equality as creations of God and before him equal. Simply put, even if the UDHR is disregarded or rendered ineffectual through time and modern developments, human rights remain an intangible shield and source of human dignity, protection and proper way of life.

Just a thought. 🙂
